Edisto Island Serpentarium offers unique experiences with reptiles and a variety of programs tailored to your needs! With our live local and exotic reptiles, we teach about a variety of things, including how to identify venomous and non-venomous snakes, the interesting adaptations reptiles have developed, how reptiles fit into the ecosystem, how to stay safe during a reptile encounter, and much more! Our programs start at 45 minutes and can be extended by staff members choice or request from you. Please let us know when booking if you would like a long show so that can be coordinated.
This is our standard reptile presentation, which can be tailored to specific age groups as needed. This presentation includes venomous and non-venomous snakes local to the southeast and either an alligator OR local turtles. Snakes can either be presented by the handler or in vision cages as appropriate for your audience and venue.
This program is tailored specifically for emergency services groups, foresters, power company linemen, scout groups and other groups who may either have close encounters with dangerous reptiles or treat those who do. Learn which snakes are dangerous, how venom works, and what not to do when bitten. Our reptile handler will bring examples of common venomous snakes to the region and explain how to properly respond to a snake bite on the scene in order to give medical professionals the best chance to treat the victim properly.
Bet you know how a rattlesnake defenses itself from predators but do you know how a tortoise defends itself. Alligators can use their mouths to chomp on things trying to harm them but do they have other sources that they use to protect them in the wild. Ask for this course for a fun educational course on reptiles and how they fend and fight off predators.
Scaly Friends
Let us bring our animals to your event! This program has no lecture and is all hands on touch and feel. This is a 45 minute program that can be booked for a longer time frame with an additional charge. This is great for smaller kids or groups just wanting to get acquainted with reptiles. Make your event a hit with scaly friends!
Birthday Bash
The same as scaly friends with some extras. The animals come to party. There is also an additional option to purchase a gift bag for the birthday person that we will bring with us.
What you need to know
For most requested outreaches our handlers will need enough room to fit a 5-6 foot table. For larger events we may need more than one table. If we are going to be outdoors we will need a place to fit a 10×10 tent for weather/shade. Also for larger groups and most outdoor events we will need a PA set up or system. If you have requested venomous snakes to attend your event please know that if we are pulling them from their travel containers for education purposes we will need a space of about 3 foot or more in between the handler and the guest to ensure safety for everyone. We do have our own supplies but if you would like to supply them for us please just let us know.

Pricing varies per program factoring in location, program choice, length of program and amount of people that will be attending the program. We will also include expenses for travel, lodging, meals and staffing as we deem necessary. Charges will be included on the invoice that you receive by email before the program date.
